Washington Avenger’s Coaches attend NFCA Clinic in Portland
JAN ’23 – Portland, OR – Six Avengers coaches got the opportunity this past weekend to rub shoulders with some of the greatest coaching minds in fastpitch. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association put on a Coaches Clinic in Portland featuring a who’s who of the softball coaching world. The NFCA host was it’s Chair, Carol Bruggeman, former Division 1 player at Iowa and long time Division 1 coach at Michigan and Louisville and founder and 12 year head coach at Purdue University. The lineup of presenters was nothing short of incredible, including:
· Former Oregon assistant and current Boise State head coach, Justin Shults
· Former Kansas Jayhawks and current Marshall head coach, Megan Smith Lyon
· Past standout player and 14 year head coach for Utah, Amy Hogue
· New Zealand and US men’s fastpitch legend, former Oregon head coach and current head coach of University of Texas, Mike White. Coach White lead his Longhorns to a WCWS finals appearance in 2022.
· Arguably the G.O.A.T in college softball coaching, second in all time wins (in any sport) with 24 college world series appearances,53 All-American players and 8 National Championships, retired Arizona head coach, Mike Candrea
Our coaches had the chance to gain insight on strategy, skills and drills, the mental game, practice planning and generally just getting the opportunity to absorb and gain knowledge from these giants of the softball world. We are thrilled to have had the chance for our coaches to continue to learn and grow to better serve our student athletes and our organization.
